He could not marry his beloved because both their families were against such a marriage, and so they decided to commit suicide together. He drank poison first to show her the way, but his beloved grew scared of death and of the pain the poison would cause. She left him to die and remained among the living. His spirit longs for vengeance, but since his beloved has been dead for many centuries he avenges himself by killing everyone he meets.
In a beautiful medieval city in the fragrant Orient, his hands were cut off as punishment for theft, and he was left to die in the full blaze of the sun. His severed hands were placed on his chest. Once dead, he regained his senses and his hands became alive, though now they were attached to his chest. Since then, his hands have not obeyed him. However, he wants to avenge himself. So now, instead of fingers, he uses razor-sharp sickles similar to those used by farmers to harvest their grain. He reaps a bloody harvest.
Once you start killing, it is very hard to stop. The Black knight was a great warrior. He fell in battle after destroying dozens of enemies. However, the excitement of battle did not wane after death. The Black Knight is eager to continue fighting and winning even in the afterlife.
While he was alive he was a fanatic and a staunch witch hunter. He stopped being able to remember how many innocent souls he had ruined by accusing young girls and mature mothers of witchcraft and sending them to the bonfire. He was cursed. Now he wanders through the afterlife, where his monstrous hunt continues. He considers everyone he meets on his way to be his enemy.
Once, a very long time ago, he used to worship his stomach and was famous for his gluttony. He observed neither holy days nor abstinence days, and he would boast about this. And then he died by choking on a huge piece that was lodged in his throat. He first suffered horribly from suffocation as he turned blue and orange foam burst from his mouth.
The war takes away a great many lives. The searcher lost all his relatives, and he himself was captured by the enemy while he was still a boy. Long years of captivity can break some people, but others are made even stronger by them. The searcher turned into a great warrior able to wear armor that took the strength of four strong men to lift. And he was agile and fast when wearing this armor, as if it were as light as a feather. Even after death, he is still the same, a fearsome and fast warrior encased in battle armor.
Treasure hunters found a cave with a treasure. Overjoyed, they got drunk and went to sleep. One of them did not sleep, though. He decided not he did not wish to share the treasure with his companions. As the night came, he cut off his companions’ heads. He was able to keep the booty for himself. However, after his death, he was punished. He was turned into a monster made of bloody red stones. Also, as a reminder of his excessive greed, he got many hands instead of two. He wanders the world with the heads that he cut off dangling from his belt.
Once he spoke one wrong word as he was casting a spell. And instead of turning his enemy into a dead, bodiless spirit, the warlock himself became one. This is a spell that neither he nor anyone else can dispel. The eternal anathema that was his lot followed him into the afterlife as well.
Condemned people were thrown to their death from this rock. In the end, the stone became so soaked in hate, death cries, pain and horror that it became alive. It is inhabited by the emanations of the souls of condemned people. Meanwhile, the stone has grown accustomed to the sight of death, and it now likes to bring death to others.
He once betrayed his native city to enemy forces, and those who survived cursed him. And so he turned into a monstrous phantom. He is afraid of catching anybody’s eye ever again, because he has already experienced all the power of hate and contempt. This is why he creeps around trying to remain unnoticed. And this is also why he kills everyone he meets by attacking them suddenly as he rushes from cover. He is afraid of hearing curses or of seeing another hateful gaze directed towards him once again.
